Rude Recreation Center

Edit on 7/28/23 — expanded weekend hours are needed, as are extensive renovations to the changing rooms and showers. Still a great place to workout though. Friendly staff, great pool, overall amazing value ($31 for a month to month, in March ‘22). The weight room and cardio space is bright, spacious, and has updated equipment (even a TRX setup). Have always felt safe here as well, despite being in an area that’s only starting to gentrify. The locker rooms are very small and outdated, which is the only thing I dislike about this facility.

Rude Recreation Center is not like your fancy gym where lot's of people go for glitzy atmosphere. Here it's a neighbor rec. center that's been open for years but they do not have the high prices like the other gyms and any class you want to take comes with your membership and they offer so much more. Like the pool or pool classes or the basketball court where you will find a game in progress that's not all being a member here gives you entry to all Denver Rec. Centers. So if you're looking for a work out or pool experience join and you will not be disappointed.

About every 1 in 3 or 4 times I show up, they just aren't open, and everyone is waiting outside. The first couple of times I waited, figuring someone was just 10 minutes late and would be there shortly. Of course no one showed up after waiting for about 20 minutes. Now when I show up and they aren't open when they're supposed to be, I just leave. It really sucks having to quickly drive across town so I can still get my workout in before I have to leave for work.

I'm very disappointed with this rec center. It's near my house, and I had to buy the Regional pass even though I only planned to use this gym. Turned out to be a blessing because I have to go to Carla Madison to get any value out of my pass (a 25 minute drive across town). There were 2 things I wanted to use the gym for: take group classes and bring my baby swimming. This place has just a few classes, most at inconvenient times. The pool has no steps, only ladders, and no changing table in the women's locker room. The good thing is that this place has been basically empty every time I've come, but I guess that's a reflection of how useful most people find it to be.

Great facility. Just wish they would open the middle of the basketball court there is always a divider daily and they don’t move it even upon request. My one gripe tho is that when there is a schedule change on the basketball court they do not put any signs up on the doors. Anything that says “basketball court is closed at 5:30pm” would be greatly appreciated. It would reduce staff having bad interactions with patrons who are trying to use the court they pay to use and it at least let’s those who are coming to play basketball have a chance to leave before paying to use the gym. PLUS if there is a basketball court schedule change the employees should be able to just tel you where you can go to play instead of rudely saying “call around and find an open court” like if you’re not going to announce that the court is closed you should at least be able to tell me where to go to play. I pay $30 a month to use the facilities and when there isn’t any announcement of a court closure I should be able to use the court if I’m an adult and not bothering a children’s basketball practice.
